Diagnostics
We offer the full range of diagnostic eye tests, including OCT, visual fields, ultrasound, biometry, electrophysiology, fluorescein angiography, refraction, phlebotomy, pachymetry and many more. All are using the latest equipment and operated by experts, so we can be sure of accurate diagnosis.
Radiology
Our in-house service delivers head and orbit (eye socket) CT scans and a variety of x-rays and dacrocytograms.
We also have close relationships with partners for other imaging such as MRI and DEXA bone scans.
Lasers
All our laser equipment, including the excimer laser and femtosecond laser, is upgraded every three years. This ensures we offer our patients the most advanced and precise technology with the fastest recovery times.
Lenses
Intraocular lenses (IOLs) are clear, artificial lenses that replace your eye's natural ones. Ensuring quality is paramount. As the largest ophthalmic centre in Europe, we work closely with manufacturers to ensure we are providing the highest quality product.
Prosthetics
Our ocular prosthetics department is the largest of its type in the UK. Each custom-made prosthesis is made from high quality cross-linked acrylic or glass and are individually fitted. They are manufactured by the ocularist in the department at Moorfields and hand painted in front of the patient.
Pharmacy
Our pharmacies and pharmacists are dedicated to eye care. We are set up specifically to safely manage, store and dispense eye care prescriptions. So you can be sure that the medicine you receive is at its optimum performance.

Outpatients
Moorfields Private has a standalone private outpatient centre, adjacent to the main hospital at City Road. Set over four floors, the facilities offer patients a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Each floor has its own consulting rooms, diagnostic rooms and waiting area, where patients can relax prior to their appointment or while they wait for their diagnostic test results. The outpatient centre also has a dedicated pharmacy, where patients are able to obtain any prescribed medicines.
Inpatients and day patients
All surgeries are performed in specialist eye surgical theatres. Our dedicated private ward includes both bedrooms for overnight stays and cabins for day patients. All include ensuite facilities and the rooms are furnished to the highest standards, ensuring 5 star comfort.
Refractive suite
Moorfields Private is a world leading centre for laser vision correction. We have a dedicated private patient’s refractive suite, situated on the 4th floor of the main hospital. All our laser eye surgery equipment, including the excimer laser and femtosecond laser, is upgraded every three years. This ensures we offer our patients the most advanced and precise technology.

Patients interested in laser eye surgery can be offered Lasek, Lasik, TransPRK and SMILE procedures performed using the most advanced techniques and equipment for high accuracy and best results.
Richard Desmond Children's Eye Centre
The Richard Desmond Centre (RDCEC) is the world’s largest children’s hospital dedicated to the treatment and research of eye diseases in children.
The RDCEC was designed to create a welcoming and child-friendly patient environment, with world-class facilities and equipment. The centre houses outpatient consulting rooms, a day care ward and a children’s A&E department, alongside research laboratories and overnight accommodation for children and parents.
Moorfields Private at Cleveland Clinic London
Situated in the heart of the City, this facility is Cleveland Clinic’s new outpatient centre that was opened in December 2023.
Our Rapid Access and Urgent Care clinic runs daily from this location, offering same and next day appointments for adult patients with acute or undiagnosed symptoms, such as a sudden change in vision, trauma, infection, pain and discomfort of unknown origin.

Moorfields Private is situated within the main Bedford Hospital site, where it provides consulting, diagnostic and inpatient services.
